Interview 1 – Peer
For the first assignment, I interviewed a classmate. In my case, it was Hannah. We went through the question list, I asked a couple off script questions, and she shared some cool stuff. It’s cool to meet someone else who has childhood connections to Pennsylvania, even if it’s in completely different contexts. While editing, the hardest part was cutting the interview down to fit the time limit. The unedited interview was over 5 minutes and I needed to get it down to under 3 so I could include the intro and outro. There was a lot of stuff that I wanted to include but couldn’t because of time constraints.
Unfortunately, there were some sections of the interview that I had to get rid of due to creaky stairs being very loud and ruining the audio. Some of the speech sounds unnatural because I had to cut dead space and pops and cracks. It was nice to get back in the groove and refamiliarize myself with GarageBand as I hadn’t used it in about 6 years at this point. The basics of DAWs are about the same though, so my experiences in video editing and with other programs transferred over.
I struggled to find music that I liked. Even now, I’m fairly unsatisfied with what I ended up using because I don’t think it has the laid back jazz feel that I wanted. It feels less like the coffee shop jazz I was looking for and more spacey. The intro and outro were both recorded in my bathroom at somewhere around 10 pm. While it’s not as energetic as I would have liked, I do admit that it gives the sections a calmer vibe that I think works with the music selection.
