Family Interview Rough Draft
This is a new assignment where the goal is to interview a family member. I interviewed my mother. The final product is not yet complete, and this is only a rough draft. The rough draft for the interview is going well. I recorded yesterday, and my mom gave me 30 minutes of audio. The draft has mostly been cutting that 30 minutes down. I’ve been able to shorten it to 12 minutes instead. That’s still more than double the limit for the final draft, but I have cut the audio to remove pauses and filler words. Continuing forward, any and all cutting will be of whole sections being removed. Even so, I have already removed a few sections for the sake of time that I wish I could have included. My mom has a lot of interesting things to say, but such is life. In addition to the shortening and cleaning up of the actual interview, I have also recorded and edited an intro to completion. The only aspect of the intro left to work on is the volume levels, which are the final step of this entire process. Items remaining on the to do list include cutting the interview so that it fits within the time limits, finding music to accompany the interview, and finally writing and recording an outro to edit. The outro needs come last because I need to credit the music. For the music to be present, I need the interview cut down to the allotted time. I haven’t touched the volume levels for a similar reason. I need all of the parts in the podcast to be in their final places with regards to time so I could compare the volumes and implement fades in and out for the intro, outro, and music. Overall, the progress on the interview has been very good so far though with a lot of work to come.
