Audio Playground 4

The prompt for this one was to look at my morning commute. Since I live on campus, my commute isn’t a whole lot so I decided to illustrate my thoughts during the 5 minutes or so it takes me to walk from Sokokis to the art building. Recording was a tiny bit of a challenge physically because my usual recording location (my shower) had a little bit of an issue (the faucet was leaky). Improvising, I decided to scrunch up into my closet and record. Neither my back or legs forgive being curled into a ball to fit under my jackets. Then again, this isn’t my first time being in the closet. This actually resulted in cleaner audio, to my surprise. I might start recording in the closet regularly. I really like my delivery here. It has that meandering pace that aimless thoughts have without really dragging on and overstaying it’s welcome. About half of the sounds were recorded myself. Specifically the walking noises, doors, and cars were all recorded by myself along my actual route. The remaining noises (the wind and goose) were taken from Freesound.org. The edit here is relatively barebones. All I did was cut out pauses between my statements and set the volume levels. I wish I had recorded more sounds of cars to fill in the dead space at the end or to allow myself the space to fade it out instead of hard stopping there. I was surprised by how loud the walking was. While I did put my phone on the ground and stepped in front of it, I didn’t think that I was really making a lot of noise. Obviously, the microphone disagrees with that. I had to bring down the levels on the footsteps a good bit.
