Expert Interview
Here it is: the long awaited expert interview! I unfortunately was not able to get the cryptozoologists for the interview due to scheduling so instead this is focused on an occupational therapy assistant. My subject, Cheyenne, was a really great interviewee who offered a lot of great detail. However, the biggest challenge in this effort came from her penchant for telling very long answers to questions. She would frequently list specific activities that she would do with patients which, while interesting, pushed this interview way past time limits. The stories that are told, particularly at the end, really capture the human element to the medical field that I feel is so often lost in discussions surrounding it in most media. It truly is motivational to see someone that is dedicated to helping others. The edit here, much like the family interview, has a lot of cuts in it. Though I still feel that the family interview has more actual slices in it. The volume was fairly easy. Both the later recorded bits and the interview were fairly even leveled even before I added compression. Speaking of the other recorded sections, I returned to my usual stomping grounds of my shower for the recording because my roommate was on the phone. Unfortunately this leads to a little bit of an echoey sound that I did not notice until I was importing the audio into GarageBand. The music was chosen because I felt that it has this uplifting, motivational tone to it that really reflects Cheyenne’s attitude towards helping others. The levels on the music was interesting because the audio has a fade in baked into it so I had to do a corresponding fade down to keep the music from overshadowing the interview. I’m glad that I gave myself some time at the end to do a proper fade out because I feel like too many of my past podcasts have had abrupt endings.
